Warm congratulations to Academician Lei Qingquan from Anhui Huayu Cable Group Co., Ltd., who won the “China Dielectric Physics Lifetime Achievement Award”

Academician Lei Qingquan from our academician workstation won the “China Dielectric Physics Lifetime Achievement Award”

From April 9th to 12th, 2021, the 18th National Academic Conference on Dielectric Physics, Materials, and Applications was held in Xi’an, organized by the Dielectric Physics Committee of the Chinese Physical Society. At the opening ceremony, Wang Shuguo, President of Xi’an Jiaotong University, awarded the “China Dielectric Physics Lifetime Achievement Award” to Academician Lei Qingquan of our academician workstation. Established in 2014, this prestigious award honors scientists who have contributed significantly to dielectric research in China. This year, two individuals received this honor. Additionally, in the conference report, Academician Nan Cewen, a professor at Tsinghua University, praised the leading role of the 354th Xiangshan Scientific Conference organized by Lei Qingquan in developing the emerging field of nanodielectrics.

Professor Lei Qingquan’s Contributions to Electrical Materials

Professor Lei Qingquan is the chairman of the Academic Committee of Qingdao University of Science and Technology, the dean of the Advanced Electrical Materials Research Institute, an insulation technology expert, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, a member and lifetime honorary director of the Engineering Dielectrics Professional Committee of the China Electrotechnical Society, and the honorary chairman of the Shandong Electrotechnical Society. He has invented a new co-condensation method to prepare new quinone radical-free polymer powder materials, discovered a new conductivity law, and created an original and innovative pressure-temperature dual-parameter sensor. Consequently, he has solved many technical issues related to semi-conductive polymer powder materials in the field of sensors, which had not been applied for a long time, making significant contributions to technological progress in this area. In addition, this pioneering work earned the second prize in the National Technological Invention Award.

Professor Lei Qingquan’s Impact on Scientific Research

In 2009, Professor Lei Qingquan chaired the 354th Xiangshan Scientific Conference, themed “Multi-level Structure of Nano Dielectrics and Their Macroscopic Properties.” During his review report, he proposed strengthening research on the correlation between mesoscopic or nanoscale structure, microstructure, and macroscopic performance, emphasizing the need to establish their interrelationships and theoretical models.

After years of dedicated research, Professor Lei introduced a one-dimensional gas/alumina nanocell superelectric insulator structural prototype. He also established connections between the microstructure, mesoscopic structure, and macroscopic breakdown performance in generating nanostructured dielectric electron avalanches. This research, published in Nano Energy in 2017 with Qingdao University of Science and Technology as the first unit, has significantly advanced traditional dielectric breakdown theory, material structure research, and manufacturing technology.

Consequently, these results are significant for modern technology, especially in high-end cable manufacturing and ultra-high voltage power transmission and transformation.
